Before we can accompany others toward death, we first develop our own trusting relationship.  From this place, we cultivate the tools and skills of death midwifery.  See courses below.

New to Deathwork? Start Here.

Every journey begins with a first step. In this course, you’ll be introduced to the foundations of deathwork: its history, practices, and the presence it calls forth. Here, you’ll begin to find your footing in the sacred art of walking beside the dying and the grieving.

The Four Farewell Paths

There are four ways to walk with Farewell. Kindling lights the first spark, a self-paced beginning. Foundations carries you further with guided mentorship. Thresholds opens the door to embodied practice, joining the circle of hospice at the bedside. And Rooted calls you into apprenticeship, with advanced study and three deeper modules of practice. Each path meets you where you are, and each leads further into the art of deathwork.

This Mortal Terrain: Answering the Call Into Deathwork

By examining what it is like to face end-of-life in N. America today, who is being well-served and under-served by the system, and how death doulas and midwives can bridge the gaps in current end-of-life care, we begin to see the spaces we are called to fill.  We then turn our attention to building a spiritual relationship with Death.

Sacred Ground: Honoring Your Grief

When we are called into deathwork, we hold space for others as they journey toward Death and through the depths of their grief.  We must first be willing to do the same with ourselves.  To fully honor grief as deathwalking requires, we must know the facets of grief well, explore our shadow and ancestor work, and develop rituals for grief-tending as a part of building a trusting relationship with Death.
